Of the 18 million square miles of agricultural land worldwide, China leads the ranking. Boasting roughly two million square miles, the nation’s continued dominance is closely attributed to the government’s strong investment in innovation. 

As Global Times reported, advances in science and technology contribute more than 64% of the country’s agricultural output growth, particularly through developments in seed technology and farm mechanization. Yahoo! Finance adds that the integration of GPS-guided systems, automated steering, and real-time data monitoring has become a key driver in enhancing China’s agricultural operations.

Ultimately, China is both today’s largest producer and consumer of agricultural goods.

It also remains the only nation with agricultural land reaching around two million square miles, while the countries that follow fall notably short of the 1.7-million mark. Securing second place, the United States has about 1.6 million square miles of agricultural land and is widely recognized for its strong global position in corn production. 

Australia follows as a key contributor to the global wheat and cereal supply, supported by roughly 1.4 million square miles of farmland. Meanwhile, Brazil stands out as a major producer of soybeans and sugarcane, with agricultural land figures approaching one million square miles. 

From the African continent, Sudan ranks tenth with approximately 435,002 square miles of agricultural land. The sector has long served as a backbone of the nation’s economy, cultivating a wide range of crops, including cotton, groundnuts, sesame, gum arabic, sorghum, and sugarcane, as Britannica cited.
