5 Tips for Easily Spotting Your Luggage on Airport Conveyors

4 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After taking a flight, whether short or long-distance, the next nerve-wracking stage is retrieving your luggage. Amid a sea of other passengers' belongings on airport conveyors, you must scrutinize dozens of nearly identical bags and suitcases at the baggage claim. It is not uncommon for someone to mistakenly take another person's luggage.

With a specific marker on your luggage or bag, you can easily identify it. This simple step can save time, prevent loss, and deter accidental swaps. Here are a few tips to make your luggage easily identifiable among other passengers' belongings.

1. Stand Out with Luggage Color

The simplest way to distinguish your luggage is by choosing a distinctive color. Typically, the most commonly used suitcase colors are plain black or dark blue, making differentiation challenging.

Opting for a brightly colored suitcase, such as red, orange, teal, or one with a unique print, will make it visually easy to spot, as reported by the Times of India. Colorful luggage will not only be readily visible but also reduce the risk of someone else taking it.

2. Attach a Uniquely Designed Label

Labels serve not only to display the owner's contact information but also as a distinct identifier. Choose a large, colorful label with neon prints, clever sayings, or bold letters. Leather, rubber, or fabric labels with striking designs are often easy to find and inexpensive.

It is advisable to select a color that contrasts sharply with your luggage. For instance, if you have a black suitcase, a neon green or bright yellow label will be highly noticeable.

3. Use Luggage Covers

Luggage covers offer benefits beyond mere identification. As cited from Travel+Leisure, they also help prevent scratches and dents and protect belongings from rain and wet conditions. They are typically available in various colors or designs, as well as sizes that fit most luggage. Made of easily removable and installable fabric, they provide a flexible solution.

4. Apply Stickers or Patches

Any type of sticker, be it travel stickers, name tags, or others, offers a creative and functional way to personalize a bag. Whether they represent places you have visited or feature favorite cartoon characters, these decorations become a distinctive identity for your luggage or bag. Ensure that the stickers are waterproof and adhere to a flat surface. You don't need to overdo it; a few well-placed stickers are sufficient.

"Make your luggage stand out with a brightly colored strap, ribbon, or sticker. This helps prevent someone else from mistakenly taking your bag and makes it easier to spot on the carousel,” said Rocky Trifari, a travel expert living in the U.S. and the founder of The Rocky Safari travel blog as quoted from Huffington Post.

5. Photograph Your Luggage Before Check-in

Another effective method is to take a photo of your luggage before handing it over at the airline check-in counter. This photo can serve as crucial evidence if your luggage goes missing, ends up in the wrong place, or gets swapped with someone else's during the journey.

In addition to an overall photo, unique features such as stickers, labels, scratches, or colorful ribbons that distinguish the luggage should also be included.
