TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) ensures that an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who was sentenced to prison in Myanmar on charges of supporting an armed opposition movement has received amnesty from the local authorities.

According to the Spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah "Roy" Soemirat, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon continue to advocate for the Indonesian citizen, known to be an Instagram celebrity (celebgram) with the initials AP, after his prison sentence became final.

"The Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 16, 2025, delivered a diplomatic note to the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, informing that amnesty for AP has been granted by the State Administration Council," Roy said in a written statement received on Sunday, July 20, 2025 as quoted by Antara.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, through coordination with AP's family, previously delivered a diplomatic note to the Myanmar authorities to request amnesty for AP, the Ministry's Spokesperson said.

After the amnesty for AP was granted, the Indonesian citizen was deported out of Myanmar on July 19, 2025, through Thailand before arriving in the homeland.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon accompanied AP when he left Myanmar on a flight to Bangkok," Roy added.

He also expressed appreciation from the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Myanmar authorities who granted amnesty to AP.

Appreciation is also conveyed to various parties who have assisted the process of handling the case until AP was released, said Roy.

It is known that the Indonesian citizen with the initials AP was arrested by the Myanmar authorities on December 20, 2024, for allegedly entering Myanmar illegally and meeting with an armed opposition group.

Charged with multiple counts, AP was accused of violating the Anti-Terrorism Act, Immigration Law, and the Unlawful Associations Act.

"After going through the judicial process, AP was sentenced to seven years in prison," said Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement received in Jakarta on July 1. Judha said that AP was detained at Insein Prison in Yangon, Myanmar.
