TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - A detainee at the Denpasar City Police Resort was beaten to death by fellow inmates inside a holding cell. The victim, identified as AI, 34, was a suspect in a child molestation case.

"Around seven people are suspected of beating the victim," said Commissioner Ariasandy, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Bali Regional Police, on Friday, June 6, 2025.

The individuals allegedly involved in the assault have been identified as ADS, KAJ, JR, DMWK, PPM, KS, and IGARP. Most of them are being held in connection with drug-related offenses.

Ariasandy explained that the incident came to light on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 08:30 PM local time. Officers on duty received a report from one of the inmates claiming that a fellow detainee had collapsed in the bathroom. When the guards arrived, they found AI lying on the floor. "At that time, the victim was still breathing. He was then taken to Bhayangkara Hospital," he said.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. "The motive is still being investigated. What is clear is that from the investigation, the 7 individuals are suspected of being involved in the beating," Ariasandy added.

In addition to questioning the inmates, both the Internal Affairs Division and the Denpasar City Police are examining the conduct of the guards who were on duty at the time of the incident. Ariasandy emphasized that any violations by officers will be addressed in accordance with existing regulations.

"The officers on duty at that time are required to provide information to the Bali Regional Police's Internal Affairs Division and the Denpasar City Police Resort," he said.
