TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Council of the European Union said on Monday it had extended its sanctions regime over serious human rights violations in Iran until April 13, 2027, citing ongoing concerns over repression and abuses, as quoted by Iran International.

The EU Council said on Monday it had extended its sanctions regime over serious human rights violations in Iran until April 13, 2027, citing ongoing concerns over repression and abuses.

“The Council today decided to prolong the EU restrictive measures in response to serious human rights violations in Iran until April 13, 2027,” the EU Council said in a statement.

As part of the review, it opted not to relist individuals who have died. The sanctions list now covers 262 individuals and 53 entities reportedly linked to rights abuses or repression.

The measures include travel bans and asset freezes, as well as a ban on exporting telecommunications surveillance equipment to Iran. EU citizens and companies are also barred from providing funds to those on the sanctions list.

The EU first introduced human rights sanctions on Tehran in 2011 and has renewed them annually amid what it says are persistent rights abuses, including violent crackdowns on protests and restrictions on freedoms of expression and assembly.
