Exploring Fantastic Four: First Steps' 4 Filming Spots from England to Spain

CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta - The latest film from the Marvel universe, 'Fantastic Four: First Steps', premiered in Indonesian theaters on July 23, 2025. The film reintroduces the legendary Marvel superhero team in a new version starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

Set in 1960s New York, the movie presents a retro-futuristic ambiance characteristic of that era on Earth-828. Despite many scenes set in the United States, most of the production processes were actually carried out in various regions of Europe throughout 2024.

Adapted from the classic comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the film explores the dilemma between family ties and the responsibility of being a superhero. 1. Pinewood Studios, England

Despite being set in New York, the entire city's atmosphere was constructed at Pinewood Studios, England. Everything from Yancy Street in Lower East Side, Times Square, to the Baxter Building, was created across 30 sets scattered across eight sound stages. This location also served as the site for building the futuristic penthouse of Reed Richards, inspired by the designs of renowned architects Eero Saarinen and Oscar Niemeyer.

The studio is also known for producing various blockbuster films such as 'James Bond' and 'Star Wars,' and this time, it was trusted once again to handle the cinematography of the Marvel film, which was helmed by Jess Hall, the cinematographer behind 'WandaVision.'

2. Middleton Mine, Derbyshire Dales

To create the underground base of the antagonist Mole Man, the production team utilized Middleton Mine located in the Derbyshire Dales area. Around 725 feet out of a total of 32 miles, this mine tunnel was transformed into the underground world called Subterranea. The set was designed with an aesthetic of old pipes and obsolete industrial equipment, creating a gloomy and mysterious atmosphere typical of a villain's lair.

3. Durdle Door, Dorset

The dramatic limestone cliffs and natural rock formations at Durdle Door, Dorset, served as one of the main exterior scenes in the film. This shooting location was used in mid-October 2024, providing a stunning natural backdrop and reinforcing the film's cinematic impression.

4. Oviedo, Asturias, Spain

One of the most prominent modern buildings in the film is the Oviedo Congress and Exhibition Center in Asturias, Spain. In the movie, this futuristic building serves as the headquarters of Sue Storm, namely the Future Foundation, a scientific institution that plays a role similar to a superhero version of the UN. The iconic design of this building was created by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, and the filming took place from November 19-22, 2024.

Presenting a blend of family story, superhero drama, and a retro-futuristic visual touch, 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' not only brings the classic Marvel tale in a new package, but it also takes audiences on a journey through various stunning landscapes of Europe.
