France Opens Internship Opportunities for Indonesian Creative Industry Workers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said that his ministry would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Indonesia. "The cooperation includes several sectors of the creative economy, such as gaming, film, animation, fashion, and cuisine. These sectors will be the focus of the agreement," Riefky said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Riefky explained that this cooperation includes improving the quality of human resources in the creative economy sector and expanding market access, both from France to Indonesia and vice versa. The forms of cooperation in education include residency programs for creative industry workers. "For example, Indonesian creative industry workers will receive internships in France, and vice versa," he said. "They will participate in festivals and exhibitions in Indonesia and France."

He said that the MoU will be signed this afternoon at the Ministry of Creative Economy office. "Activities will start in a month," he said.

In a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, President Emmanuel Macron stated that his visit to Indonesia would open up new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, technology, security, and culture.

Macron noted that France and Indonesia have had an ongoing relationship for 75 years. However, in the last 10 years, he said, the relationship between the two countries has become even closer, especially since France has been implementing the Indo-Pacific Strategy. "Our relationship has lasted 75 years and developed tremendously over the last decade," said Macron at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, May 28, 2025.

He also mentioned the military cooperation between the two countries, including the involvement of the carrier strike group, as well as deepening relations in defense, energy transition, transportation, and critical minerals. "Tomorrow, an agreement will be signed at Borobudur, symbolizing the friendship between Indonesia and France," said Macron.
