Grandfather of MI6's New Boss Turns Out to Be a Nazi Stooge, Nicknamed the Butcher

6 hours ago 3

The newly appointed head of Britain’s MI6 intelligence agency, Blaise Metreweli, has made headlines not just for becoming the agency’s first female leader, but also for a shocking revelation about her ancestry.

Metreweli’s grandfather, Constantine Dobrowolski, was a notorious Nazi collaborator during World War II, according to the Daily Mail, as reported by NDTV. He was a former Red Army deserter who became a key Nazi informant in Chernihiv, Ukraine.

German archives reveal that he infiltrated the Red Army as a spy and was known to Wehrmacht commanders as “Agent No. 30.” Her grandfather had a chilling nickname, “The Butcher,” for allegedly bragging about killing Jews.

MI6 has distanced itself from its new chief, Blaise Metreweli’s past, following reports of his grandfather’s Nazi ties. The UK Foreign Office, speaking on behalf of MI6, clarified that Metreweli had no knowledge of or contact with his paternal grandfather.

A spokesman said: "Blaise's family history, marked by conflict and division, common among those with Eastern European roots, is little known. It is this complexity that drives her dedication to preventing conflict and defending Britain from today's hostile threats as the next head of MI6."

Blaise Metreweli, 47, who is currently MI6's chief technology officer, known as "Q", joined the Secret Intelligence Service in 1999. She has spent most of her career in operational roles in the Middle East and Europe, the government said in a statement.

Richard Moore, the current head of MI6, will step down in the autumn after five years in the role.

MI6, which was founded in 1909, joins Britain's other major spy agencies, domestic spy agency MI5 and communications intelligence agency GCHQ, in appointing a female chief.

Metreweli's biggest challenges are likely to be dealing with Russia, China and Iran. Britain's spy agency has accused Russia of waging a campaign of sabotage across Europe to scare other countries away from supporting Ukraine in its fight against a Russian invasion.
