GRIB Jaya Denies Demanding Rp5 Billion from BMKG

7 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The community organization United Indonesian People's Movement (Gerakan Rakyat Indonesia Bersatu/GRIB Jaya) denied ever asking the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for Rp5 billion in exchange for ending their occupation of land in South Tangerang. GRIB Jaya claims the occupation is to protect the rights of heirs.

Hika T.A. Putra, a member of GRIB Jaya's Legal and Advocacy Team, said they confirmed with the central leadership that the accusation of demanding Rp5 billion is false.

"No one ever mentioned Rp5 billion," Hika said in a video posted on GRIB Jaya's YouTube channel on Friday, May 23. Tempo has permission to quote from the broadcast.

Wilson Colling, head of GRIB Jaya's Legal and Advocacy Team, said the land dispute has been ongoing for two years and is being handled by his team. "The advocacy team didn't suddenly take this case. We reviewed all the data and documents before providing our defense," Wilson said.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the land legally belongs to the state based on Usage Rights Certificate No. 1/Pondok Betung of 2003, which was previously registered as SHP No. 0005/Pondok Betung. Several final court rulings have upheld this ownership, including Supreme Court Decision No. 396 PK/Pdt/2000, dated January 8, 2007.

"BMKG requests assistance from authorities to carry out enforcement against GRIB Jaya, who are occupying and using BMKG's state-owned land without rights," said BMKG's Acting Head Law, Public Relations, and Cooperation Bureau Akhmad Taufan Maulana in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 20, as quoted by Antara.

Taufan also mentioned that the Tangerang District Court Chief has stated the various legal rulings reinforce each other, so no further execution process is necessary. Still, BMKG has sought a resolution through a persuasive approach by coordinating across agencies from neighborhood units (RT and RW), district offices, and police, to direct meetings with the organization and those claiming to be heirs.

However, Taufan said this approach yielded no results. According to him, the organization rejected the legal explanations provided, and in one meeting, its leaders demanded Rp5 billion in compensation as a condition to stop occupying the land.
