TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia U-23 National Team is set to face Vietnam in the final match of the AFF U-23 Cup 2025 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 8:00 PM WIB. Vietnam is one of the strong teams in the regional area. The team with the nickname The Golden Star Warriors has previously won the AFF Cup title in 2022 and 2023.
Assistant coach of Indonesia U-23 National Team, Frank van Kempen, stated that the match against Vietnam will be tough for his players. Despite only watching some of Vietnam's matches, he ensures that the Young Garudas will prepare themselves well. "I see their level of play is very high," he said in the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium area, last Friday night, July 25.
In the AFF U-23 Cup 2025, Vietnam was in Group B along with Laos and Cambodia. In the first match at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, on July 19, 2025, Vietnam defeated Laos with a score of 3-0. In the match against Cambodia, Vietnam won with a score of 2-1.
In the semifinals, Vietnam faced the Philippines at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Friday, July 25, 2025. Javier Mariona initially gave the Philippines the lead in the 36th minute. However, Nguyen Dinh Bac managed to equalize for Vietnam in the 41st minute. In the second half, Nguyen Xuan Bac turned the tables with a score of 2-1 for Vietnam.
Nguyen Xuan Bac scored one goal against the Philippines. He scored the winning goal in the 54th minute, with a header from Nguyen Phi Hoang's corner kick. He is known for his aerial dueling ability and has a good instinct for scoring goals. The Young Garudas need to be wary of set-piece situations, such as Nguyen Xuan Bac's corner kicks or free kicks.
