TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir met with Interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus during his working visit to Dhaka on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Their discussion centered on enhancing bilateral relations through cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defense, and socio-cultural aspects between Indonesia and Bangladesh.

"Indonesia is very eager to deepen cooperation with Bangladesh," Arrmanatha said, as quoted from the official release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Yunus mentioned his previous visits to Indonesia before assuming his current position. He expressed hope for strengthened bilateral relations, emphasizing the close religious, historical, and cultural ties between the two nations.

The two officials also discussed fostering people-to-people contact, including enhancing cooperation in the tourism and education sectors. This included the possibility of additional scholarships for Bangladeshi students interested in pursuing education in Indonesia. "We need to become close friends," Yunus remarked.

The meeting also addressed the Rohingya issue. Arrmanatha highlighted the urgency of international efforts to respond to the protracted humanitarian crisis. He further urged the prevention of criminal activities such as human trafficking and smuggling, which have become prevalent in the migration process of Rohingya refugees to various Southeast Asian countries.

Furthermore, both figures expressed a desire for stronger cooperation between Bangladesh and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In addition to meeting Yunus, Arrmanatha also held discussions with Bangladesh's Foreign Advisor, Touhid Hossain, and Acting Foreign Secretary, Ruhul Alam Siddique. These meetings focused on strengthening bilateral mechanisms and exploring concrete areas of cooperation between Indonesia and Bangladesh.

Arrmanatha also met with Bangladesh's Energy Advisor, Fouzul Kabir Khan, to discuss potential partnerships in the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), coal imports, and the development of mass rapid transportation and the railway industry.

He further engaged in a dialogue with the Head of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Ashik Chowdury, to discuss potential expansions of Indonesian companies in Bangladesh.

Arrmanatha's trip to Bangladesh concluded with a meeting with the Chief of the Bangladesh Army Staff. The discussion centered on strengthening defense cooperation and Indonesia-Bangladesh collaboration in UN peacekeeping missions. On this occasion, Bangladesh expressed interest in strategic industry collaboration and Indonesian aerospace products.

Arrmanatha's working visit to Dhaka was part of Indonesia's High-Level Economic Delegation (HLED) to Bangladesh.

"The opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and Bangladesh are immense," he concluded. "In the future, we need to promote 'Made in Indonesia' and 'Made in Bangladesh' as recognizable brands in the region, known for their quality and innovation. Let's invest in and support each other's economic growth."
