
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government and France have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen strategic cooperation in various fields, including science, technology, and education. The statement was conveyed by the Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, during the celebration of Bastille Day held at the French Embassy for Indonesia, Timor Leste, and ASEAN at the Raffles Hotel, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday, July 14, 2025.
In her speech, Stella Christie stated that the current relationship between Indonesia and France is entering a new, closer, and promising phase. She also referred to the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia on May 28-29, 2025, as a significant moment. "There are many agreements in various sectors, including defense, economy, energy, culture, and education," she said.
One of the important outcomes of the meeting is the signing of the Joint Declaration 2050, which reflects the commitment of both countries to build a shared future. "The Joint Declaration 2050 reflects our commitment to build a future unity based on sovereignty, peace, and prosperity," expressed Stella.
Science and Technology as the Main Focus
According to Stella Christie, the partnership between the two countries is actively progressing in the field of science, higher education, and innovation. She mentioned the rapidly evolving cooperation between Indonesian and French institutions in joint degree programs, academic exchanges, joint research, and student exchanges.
She emphasized that this collaboration is in line with Indonesia's national priorities. "Including food and energy security, developing industrialization, clean water, cutting-edge technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and much more," she said. She also mentioned programs in vocational education, creative economy, and cultural exchange.
Prabowo Attends Bastille Day in Paris
In Paris, President Prabowo Subianto attended as a guest of honor at the celebration of France's National Day, Bastille Day. He sat on the main stage with President Emmanuel Macron along the Champs Elyses, Paris, on Monday, July 14, 2025.
The Indonesian contingent, part of the Patriot II Task Force, participated in the military parade. They performed the song 'Maju Tak Gentar' by Cornel Simanjuntak as a tribute to this special invitation. A total of 500 Indonesian personnel took part in the parade. Prabowo is also scheduled to sign several new bilateral cooperation agreements with the French government.
