TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower urges State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and private companies to implement work from home (WFH) for one day a week. Minister of Manpower Yassierli said that several sectors are exempt from WFH.
"The technical implementation of WFH is regulated by each company," he said in a press conference on Wednesday, 1 March 2026.
Exempted sectors include health and hospitals; clinics; medical personnel; pharmacies; energy; oil; gas; electricity; infrastructure; public services; toll roads; clean water; and waste transportation.
Additionally, the following sectors require physical presence for machine operation and production: retail and trade, basic commodities, direct trade services, markets and shopping places, industrial sectors, and factory production. Other sectors include service, hospitality, tourism, and security.
Also included are the food and beverage sectors, as well as restaurants, cafes, and culinary businesses. The transportation and logistics sectors include passenger and freight transportation, as well as warehousing and delivery services. Financial sectors, banking, non-banking financial institutions, insurance, capital markets, and stock exchanges.
Yassierli urges companies to involve employees or labor unions in planning WFH. The choice of WFH days can be agreed upon together, not necessarily the same as civil servants (ASN), who are required to work from home every Friday.
"When we want to align with our ASN colleagues, the choice can be on Fridays," he said.
During WFH, Yassierli stated that employees' wages and other rights will remain paid according to regulations. Implementing WFH will not reduce annual leave. Employees who work from home will carry out their duties and obligations, and the company will ensure that performance, productivity, and service quality are maintained.
If there are labor violations, he urges workers to report through the Manpower Ministry (Menaker) Report channel. He stated that there should be no reduction in employee rights during the WFH period.
"We have the Menaker Report channel, and our supervisors will follow up on it," he said.
The regulations for WFH are regulated in the Minister of Manpower Circular Letter Number M/6/HK.04/III/2026 concerning Work From Home and Optimization Program for Energy Utilization in the Workplace. Due to geopolitical conflict in the Middle East over oil prices in the global market, this implementation aims to save energy usage in the workplace.
