TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that Indonesia needs to collaborate with artificial intelligence (AI) technology from China for the fisheries and agriculture sectors. She believes that the development of this technology can support priority sectors in Indonesia to advance further based on imitation intelligence.
Meutya Hafid explained that several agricultural lands in Indonesia have implemented AI technology to support production. "The AI development that we are focusing on is in the fisheries and agriculture sectors. We hope for support from China," Meutya said in a written statement on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
According to Meutya Hafid, the collaboration between Indonesia and China in the agricultural and fisheries sectors can accelerate national digital transformation. She hopes that Chinese companies can form closer partnerships with local governments in the country. "In digital transformation, we are always ready to cooperate with all countries, as long as they respect Indonesian law," she added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Komdigi, Ismail, stated that Komdigi is pushing for stronger collaboration between Indonesian universities and Tsinghua University in Beijing for the development of digital talent in the field of AI.
"Many of our young digital talents are currently pursuing education at Tsinghua University in Beijing. We propose that Tsinghua University open a branch in Indonesia, especially in the field of AI," said Ismail.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Communication and Digital is ready to facilitate collaboration between Tsinghua University and various universities in Indonesia.
