Iran Reports Death Toll from Israeli Strikes Rises to 224

8 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson of Iran's Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour, said on Sunday that the death toll since the beginning of the Israeli attacks has increased to 224, with over 1,200 people injured, 90 percent of whom are civilians.

As reported by Al Arabiya, the death toll includes 60 people on Saturday, half of whom are children, in Israel's attack on a 14-story apartment block leveled to the ground in Iran's capital, Tehran.

In three attacks, Israel killed 70 women and children, while 10 other children remain missing under the rubble in Tehran, said Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.

"Israel is trying to promote the notion that its attacks are precise and do not target residential areas, which is not true," he said, condemning the notion of "surgical strikes" as Israeli propaganda.

Since the start of the Israeli attacks on Iran on Friday, at least 13 people have died and 380 have been injured in Israel.

Israel and Iran have launched fresh attacks on Monday, June 16, 2025. As reported by Al Jazeera, up to the third day on Sunday, their attacks have killed and injured civilians and raised concerns of a wider regional conflict.

Both militaries urged civilians on the opposing side to evacuate to avoid further attacks.

In the latest attack on Sunday night, an Iranian missile illuminated the sky above the Israeli port city of Haifa, shortly after the Iranian armed forces warned Israeli residents to leave the area for their safety.

Israel's National Emergency Services reported at least 15 people injured in Haifa. The projectile landed in Haifa, with the explosion heard upon impact. The Israel Army Radio also said a building was hit in the eastern part of Tel Aviv.

The Iranian attack occurred as residents in Tehran reported earlier explosions in various areas in the heart of the city.

Reports stated that missiles hit Niavaran and Tajrish in the north of the capital, and around Valiasr and Hafte Tir squares in the city center.

According to the semi-official news agency Tasnim, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence, Mohammad Kazemi, and his deputy were killed in the attack.

Other cities attacked by Israel include Shiraz and Isfahan, where the Ministry of Defense's military base was targeted.

The Israeli military said it had targeted an air refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, describing it as a long-range attack since launching operations against Iran last week.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said Israel also launched "deliberate and cruel attacks" on one of the buildings of Iran's Foreign Ministry.
