TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced a new policy providing free public transportation services to 15 community groups, including those who work at places of worship. He symbolically handed out special cards to representatives of these groups at the Transport Hub Dukuh Atas.

"Specifically today, I have also announced that 15 groups will be exempt from transportation fees," said Pramono in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

This policy will eventually cover Transjakarta, MRT, LRT, and Transjabodetabek services. Pramono also instructed the Transportation Agency to promptly open five new Transjabodetabek routes, following the positive reception of the Alam Sutera-Blok M route.

"I have instructed the Head of the Transportation Agency to immediately open five other new routes, after the Alam Sutera-Blok M route, which has received an extraordinary response from the community," said Pramono.

Previously, Kevin Wu, a member of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission A, proposed that the Jakarta Provincial Government make public transportation free for workers at places of worship.

"We propose that the Jakarta Provincial Government provide free public transportation for people working at all places of worship throughout Jakarta," said Kevin on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as quoted from the Jakarta DPRD website.

Kevin stated that the free public transportation policy should be expanded to include all religious groups, including Islam, Buddhism, Catholicism, Christianity, and Hinduism. He emphasized that staff at all places of worship have the same duties in serving their congregations.

Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, has clarified that the free transportation service is not limited to mosque caretakers (marbot) but applies to all caretakers of places of worship, including churches, temples, viharas, and klentengs (Chinese temples) in Jakarta.

"The list of 15 groups of people who receive free Transjakarta services does indeed include mosque caretakers. However, we need to emphasize that this policy is not only applicable to mosque caretakers but to all caretakers of places of worship in Jakarta," said Rano Karno on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as quoted from Antara.

The following are the 15 groups included in this program:

  1. Civil servants of Jakarta Provincial Government and retired civil servants.
  2. Contract workers of the Jakarta Provincial Government.
  3. Recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card Plus (KJP Plus).
