TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Saurlin P. Siagian, stated that the case of an acid attack on the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, has met the criteria for a human rights violation. Saurlin said that the case meets the criteria for a human rights violation as defined by Law Number 39 of 1999.
"The human rights violation criteria are actually simple. There is a perpetrator, there is a violation of substance, and the act can be done intentionally or unintentionally. I think these criteria have been fulfilled as a human rights violation," he said at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta, Monday, March 30, 2026.
However, Saurlin stated that Komnas HAM has not classified the incident as a human rights violation because a plenary meeting with the other commissioners has not yet been held. This meeting is a procedural stage to determine an event as a human rights violation.
Saurlin explained that during the meeting, Komnas HAM will also formulate recommendations regarding the law enforcement of this case. The recommendations can be in the form of urging the case to be resolved through the general court or the formation of a fact-finding team.
"There are many scenarios. The general court is one of the ideal options. However, we have to discuss it first. In addition, there are also options for forming a Fact Finding Team or connectivity mechanisms. There are many choices, but we have to determine the final recommendation through discussions," said Saurlin.
Before that, Saurlin mentioned that Komnas HAM plans to summon the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) for an explanation. This is because the suspects in the case are members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) TNI. The TNI has detained four suspects at Pomdam Jaya.
Previously, The Jakarta Metropolitan Police received a request from Komnas HAM for information regarding the results of its investigation into the case. The Director of General Crimes Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, attended the invitation on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Komnas HAM office. The meeting lasted for three hours, from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM.
The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred on Talang Street, Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. As a result of the incident, Andrie suffered from 24 percent burns. A medical team consisting of six doctors specializing in various fields, namely ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), neurology, orthopedics, thoracic, internal medicine, and dermatology, handled Andrie Yunus' condition.
