TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National U-23 Team of Malaysia is ready to face off against the National U-23 Team of Indonesia in the final match of Group A of the AFF U-23 Cup 2025 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, July 21, 2025. The match between the two teams is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

Beginning the tournament with a 0-2 loss to the Philippines on Tuesday, Malaysia bounced back with a 7-1 victory against Brunei Darussalam in the second group stage match on Friday. This victory has allowed the Young Tigers to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the semifinals for the third time, following their previous appearances in 2005 and 2023.

Under the guidance of Nafuzi Zain, the team currently occupies the third position in Group A standings with three points, trailing behind the Philippines with an equal amount of points but a superior goal difference. Meanwhile, Indonesia leads the group with six points from an 8-0 win over Brunei and a 1-0 victory over the Philippines.

Following the match against Brunei, Malaysian U-23 player, Danish Syamer, stated that his team will give more than 100 percent when facing Indonesia. "People may say on paper that this team wins, that team wins. But for me, the ball is round, and in football, anything can happen, and we will prove it," said Danish when interviewed by reporters at the SUGBK mixed zone on Friday, July 18, 2025, as quoted from Antara.

Danish scored one goal and provided one assist during their match against Brunei Darussalam, where he played for 63 minutes. According to him, the victory in the second group stage match is an important momentum for his team before facing the home team in the final group match. "That was a turning point to face Indonesia," he said.

Another Malaysian U-23 player, Haqimi Azim, mentioned that the significant victory against Brunei has boosted their team's spirit ahead of the match against Indonesia. They are aiming for their second title in this championship following their victory in 2019.

He stated that the victory over Brunei serves as proof of what their team is capable of and simultaneously ignites the spirit to challenge Indonesia in the final group match. "So, we will prepare ourselves and give our best in the match against Indonesia later," said Haqimi.

He also emphasized that their team cannot afford to be complacent. Therefore, after the match against Brunei, he and his teammates will undergo recovery, prepare well, and train diligently. "When playing in Indonesia, we will do our best and give 100 percent," said the 22-year-old player from Kuala Lumpur City.

The last time the Malaysian U-23 team faced Indonesia was in the 2023 edition. Back then, they defeated the Garuda Muda under the guidance of Shin Tae-yong with a score of 2-1 in the group stage.
