North Korea Reportedly Sends 12 Million Artillery Rounds to Russia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Korea has consistently supplied Russia with over 12 million 152mm artillery rounds to support Moscow in its war against Ukraine, according to a report by Yonhap News cited by Anadolu on Sunday, citing South Korean military intelligence.

A report from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) shared with a member of the main opposition party in South Korea stated that North Korea is estimated to have sent about 28,000 containers of weapons and artillery ammunition.

"If calculated with 152 mm single shells, (the number of supplied shells) are presumed to have reached more than 12 million," said DIA, which operates under the South Korean Ministry of Defense.

By the end of June, South Korean intelligence claimed that North Korea is likely to send more troops to Russia in the next two months.

North Korea has deployed thousands of soldiers to assist Russia in the war in Ukraine following the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang in June 2024.

Russian Security Chief, Sergei Shoigu, stated that North Korea will send 6,000 personnel to Russia.

The number consists of 1,000 combat engineers and 5,000 military construction personnel to assist in mine-clearing and reconstruction efforts in the Kursk region bordering Ukraine.

Earlier in April, South Korean intelligence claimed that North Korea likely suffered about 4,700 casualties while fighting alongside Russian forces in the Ukraine war, with 600 confirmed deaths.
