TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pertamina (Persero) is monitoring the activities of its business units in the Middle East following the Israel and the United States' strikes on Iran. Three of Pertamina's strategic business units are directly affected by regional dynamics.
"Pertamina has also prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy and Consulate, and local authorities to ensure the smooth operations and safety of the crew," said Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, in an official statement quoted on Monday, March 2, 2025.
The three subsidiaries operating in the Middle East include PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non-Captive, which conducts global energy transportation activities. Furthermore, Pertamina International EP (PIEP) operates upstream activities in Basrah, Iraq, and Pertamina Patra Niaga is involved in the procurement of crude oil and products from sources in the Middle East region.
To ensure a smooth supply chain and maintain national energy resilience, Pertamina is also undertaking mitigation measures. Currently, Pertamina has a diversified supply portfolio for crude oil, fuel products, and LPG, sourced from domestic production and various partner countries.
The sources are from domestic production as well as various partner countries. Baron stated that this diversification provides flexibility in supply management amidst geopolitical dynamics.
In addition, Pertamina is optimizing the operations of domestic refineries to maintain production and distribution balance. The company ensures the public has sufficient and controlled access to fuel and LPG by managing the supply from upstream to downstream.
