Police Yet to Arrest Suspect in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has yet to arrest the perpetrator of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the police are still gathering evidence based on their analysis of CCTV recordings and communication networks.

"Until today, we have not made any efforts to apprehend the perpetrator," he said during a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Iman stated that most CCTV cameras installed in Jakarta have a sufficiently high resolution. Therefore, the police obtained clear images in several locations.

Currently, the police are also conducting forensic laboratory tests on several pieces of evidence found at the crime scene. These include the perpetrator's helmet and the container that is suspected to have been used to hold the chemical liquid.

The evidence belonging to the perpetrator was handed over to the Indonesian National Police's Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) on Sunday, March 15, 2026. "Hopefully, the perpetrator's fingerprints and DNA will be found on the helmet," said Iman.

Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by an unknown individual in the Talang Street area, Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that Andrie suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body as a result of the incident. He is being treated by six doctors specializing in different areas: eyes, ears, nose, and throat; nerves and bones; thorax; internal organs; and skin.
