
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will bring hundreds of businesspeople to Indonesia. Prabowo conveyed this in a joint press statement during a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Planalto Palace, Brasilia.
He said the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in the trade and investment sectors. "We warmly welcome your plan to bring hundreds of Brazilian businesspeople with you on your visit to Indonesia," said Prabowo, quoted from the live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
He hopes the visit of the Brazilian President, along with hundreds of businesspeople, will lead to real cooperation as soon as possible. "So that we can forge real cooperation as soon as possible," he said.
Prabowo hopes that Indonesia and Brazil can soon finalize the Indonesia-MERCOSUR Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IM-CEPA). Mercosur is a South American trade bloc consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
In addition, the Head of State also encouraged bilateral cooperation through the role of the Danantara Investment Management Agency. He added that Indonesia is open to discussing the livestock sector, agricultural development, and the food industry. "We are exploring further cooperation, joint research in the field of technology," he said.
Prabowo hopes President Lula can visit Indonesia in October this year. He mentioned that their birthdays fall in the same month.
"I hope President Lula can visit Indonesia in October this year, as we have almost the same birthday, in October, and I want to celebrate President Lula's birthday in Indonesia," he said.
