TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said his overseas working visits are aimed at protecting the interests of the Indonesian people, particularly by preserving and creating jobs, as quoted by Antara.
“I travel abroad to protect my people. How? By securing their jobs,” Prabowo said recently, according to a post uploaded on Thursday, March 26, by the Instagram account of Indonesia’s State Secretariat Ministry.
Prabowo said that while his ministers are carrying out their respective duties, there are strategic matters that require the direct involvement of the head of state to lobby and secure important agreements with international partners.
“If I don’t lobby, of course the ministers will work, but in the end I have to come. There are important matters that must be finalized directly,” he said.
The President also stressed that every bilateral relationship must be built on a strong bargaining position so Indonesia can safeguard its national interests amid current global dynamics.
“In every relationship, there must be bargaining power, and it has to come from a position of strength. That is what we are working on now,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo is expected to embark on another overseas trip in the coming days.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry is preparing for the President’s visit to Japan from March 29 to 31 and to South Korea from March 31 to April 2.
According to Japan’s Foreign Ministry website, Prabowo is scheduled to make an official visit that will include a state luncheon hosted by Emperor Naruhito.
He is also expected to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry said the visit would provide an important opportunity for both countries to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s state news agency Yonhap News Agency reported that Prabowo will make a state visit to South Korea to discuss bilateral ties with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
According to Yonhap, the two leaders are expected to discuss practical cooperation in a range of sectors, including trade, investment, defense and security, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition, and culture.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss ways to strengthen ties between ASEAN and South Korea, as well as regional security and other global issues.
