TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto proposed creating air ambulances to help evacuate people who are ill or in critical condition. He made this statement while presenting the bill on the 2027 State Budget and financial notes in the Plenary Meeting Room in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.
"We will create air ambulances using helicopters and small planes. So that no one can escape if they are sick," Prabowo said.
He said the idea came about due to frequent public reports about the difficulty of accessing healthcare. He also noted that many mothers had died from having to travel for hours during childbirth. This was due to poor road and bridge access and the distance from the city center.
Prabowo explained that the air ambulance can land on grassy and sandy fields, as well as on riverbanks. "Even if necessary, doctors will be flown to areas where people are seriously ill or facing disasters," said the Gerindra Party Chair.
On the same occasion, Prabowo stated that the government has built 66 regional hospitals in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. Going forward, the government will build and revitalize 441 regional general hospitals.
Prabowo has ordered all districts and cities to build hospitals equipped with advanced technology to save lives.
