1. Anwar Ibrahim Shares Insights from Meeting with Prabowo
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed the details of his discussion with President Prabowo Subianto during their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026. Anwar stated that his meeting with Prabowo created an opportunity to find common ground and address the conflict in the Middle East.
The United States and Israel's war against Iran is said to have shaken global stability. Therefore, Anwar stated that Malaysia and Indonesia need to strengthen cooperation to maintain regional stability and the welfare of the people.
"In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen regional alignment, principled in maintaining peace, ensuring stability, and strengthening economic resilience for the welfare of the people," said Anwar in Malay, through the social media account X @anwaribrahim, on Friday.
2. Why the Indonesian Rupiah Could Weaken to 20,000 per Dollar
Political Economy and Policy Studies (PEPS) has warned that Indonesia’s rupiah is increasingly vulnerable amid rising global geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict in Iran.
Anthony Budiawan, Managing Director of PEPS, said the possibility of the rupiah weakening to around Rp20,000 per US dollar is no longer hypothetical but grounded in historical patterns.
“Indonesia has been lulled by the narrative that Indonesia's economy is strong, with large foreign exchange reserves exceeding US$150 billion,” Anthony said in a written statement on Monday, March 23, 2026.
3. Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim Discuss Strategic Issues
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya referred to the moment as a meeting between two old friends.
"This evening, President Prabowo Subianto welcomed his old friend, who is also the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta," said Teddy in a written statement on Friday.
According to Teddy, the meeting of the two state leaders went well. While chatting, Teddy said that Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim also exchanged greetings in the context of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah.
