Indonesian Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that the limited coordination meeting (rakortas) of the Ministry of Coordinating Human Development and Culture did not discuss the plan for rice exports. "So far, there has been no rakortas," said Budi to reporters when met in the Cikupa area, Tangerang Regency, on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
On the other hand, the Head of the National Food Security Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, revealed that Indonesia has exported specialty rice to several countries, including Saudi Arabia. The rice is used for specific needs such as hotels, restaurants, and catering. "Indeed, Indonesia has recently exported specialty rice to Saudi Arabia and other places," Arief said in a written statement on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
2. Indonesia's Judicial Commission Investigates Acquittal of Chinese National in Illegal Gold Mining Case
The Judicial Commission of Indonesia has provided an update on suspected ethical violations by Pontianak High Court judges who acquitted Yu Hao, a Chinese national, in a case involving illegal gold mining in West Kalimantan.
Spokesperson Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata stated that the commission has collected information and statements pointing to potential ethical breaches and misconduct by the judges, prompting the deployment of an investigative team.
However, Mukti withheld the investigation’s findings due to their confidential nature.
"The findings will be discussed with Judicial Commission members responsible for oversight," he said in a statement on Wednesday, May 21.
3. Grab, Gojek, and Maxim Online Taxi Drivers Will Shut Down Apps on May 20
The Indonesian Transport Workers Union (SPAI) along with online motorcycle taxi drivers, online taxis, and couriers will conduct a demonstration on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. SPAI also calls for a mass 'off bid' action or turning off the application during the demonstration.
"This is a coalition action of labor unions and communities," said SPAI Chair Lily Pujiati when contacted on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The action will take place in the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation area. Lily said the demonstration would be joined by about 1,000 people.
The demonstration participants are from communities in several areas such as Jakarta, Tangerang, and Yogyakarta.
