Vietnam to Introduce 10-Year Golden Visa Program to Boost Tourism

8 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vietnam announced that it will introduce a new golden visa program, which will allow foreign nationals to reside in the country for 10 years, aiming to attract professionals, artists, and investors.

According to the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board, the program is aimed at boosting tourism and the economy. The number of tourist visits in the first quarter of 2025 reached 7.67 million, a nearly 24 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

China and South Korea are Vietnam's largest tourism markets, followed by Taiwan, the United States, and Japan.

Three categories of visas are proposed by the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board, as reported by Euro News. First, the Gold Visa, which is valid for five to ten years and can be extended for one or two years. Second, the Investor Visa, valid for ten years, with an option for applicants to become permanent residents after five years.

Finally, the Talent Visa for skilled professionals in specific fields, which is valid for five years. However, the renewal process is straightforward and ideal for those who wish to stay in the country after the visa expires.

While the requirements for these three types of visas have not been released, it is likely that the application process will be done online to facilitate applicants. In addition, visa procedures for tourists and business travelers on short trips have been simplified, streamlined, and digitized.

The Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board has proposed several cities and provinces to host pilot programs for this new initiative. These cities include Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

The Best Times to Visit Vietnam

The Vietnamese government hopes for the golden visa program to boost tourism in the country. The Southeast Asian country's natural attractions and beaches are a draw for tourists, along with destinations such as the lush green paddy fields in Sapa and the unique Ha Long Bay.

The best times to visit the country are throughout the year, but some months are more suitable for certain activities. For example, beach lovers may prefer February to June for a more enjoyable experience along Vietnam's coast.

To avoid crowds, plan a trip between April and June or September and November. In general, the country experiences its quiet season during the transition from winter to summer, or vice versa.

However, Vietnam is affected by storms, typhoons, and extreme weather during certain months, as reported by Lonely Planet. For example, August and September are the months with the highest risk of storms in Vietnam. Both the northern and southern coasts are most severely affected by typhoons. During months with high storm risk, travelers may want to avoid beach activities due to bad weather.
