Wings Air Cancels Eight Flights Following Mount Lewotobi's Eruptions

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia's El Tari Kupang Airport recorded that the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has disrupted eight flights bound for the islands of Flores and Lembata. 

"Until 1 p.m., there were eight planes that had to cancel their flights due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi," said the Acting Substitute Official for Legal, Compliance & Stakeholder Relations at El Tari Kupang Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Yudi Saputra, in Kupang, on Tuesday, responding to the airport's situation in the face of the overnight eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki.

Wings Air canceled eight flights: the Wings Air IW1828 Maumere-Kupang, Wings Air IW1829 Kupang-Maumere WingsAir IW1994 Lewoleba-Kupang, and WingsAir IW1995 Kupang-Lewoleba.

Next are the Wings Air IW1930 Larantuka-Kupang, Wings Air IW1931 Kupang-Larantuka, Wings Air IW1928 Larantuka-Kupang, and Wings Air IW1929 Kupang-Larantuka. "So for Kupang-Larantuka, there were four flights per day," he said.

He explained that whether the airlines will resume operations hinges on the developments following the eruptions.

Previously, a volcanic eruption occurred at Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, reaching a height of 4,000 meters on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025. The observed ash column was gray in color with a thick intensity leaning towards the west and northwest. This eruption activity was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 mm and a duration of approximately 3 minutes 11 seconds.
