TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) recorded that approximately 1,958,000 vehicles have returned to Jakarta as of Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2026. This figure represents roughly 58 percent of the total number of vehicles estimated to have left the capital during the annual Eid homecoming.

Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that around 1.4 million vehicles are still expected to trickle back into Jakarta through March 29, 2026. "It's clear that the peak of the return flow occurred on March 24," Agus said in Sukoharjo on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, according to a written statement.

Agus explained that during the peak of the return flow on March 24, 2026, a total of 256,388 vehicles entered Jakarta. This volume marks an increase compared to the 2025 peak, which saw 223,163 vehicles return.

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo urged the public to use the "work from anywhere" (WFA) policy to help ease congestion during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr return period.

"Travelers can take advantage of the 25th, 26th, and 27th to return, so that the peak traffic can be further distributed," Sigit remarked during the launch of the national one-way traffic scheme at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Central Java, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

According to a Joint Ministerial Decree, the government designated the collective Eid al-Fitr leave from March 20 to 24, 2026. Furthermore, through the Minister of PANRB Circular Number 2 of 2026, the government has implemented a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants and private sector employees for March 26-27, 2026.

Sigit expressed his hope that the returning traffic will not result in severe bottlenecks or gridlock heading toward Jakarta. He also reminded the public to prioritize safety and security throughout their journey and to utilize government-provided facilities, including rest areas, service stations, and integrated security posts.
