TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The final match of the group stage in the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup concluded on Tuesday night, July 22, 2025. As a result, Vietnam emerged as the champion of Group B after defeating Cambodia 2-1, and Thailand became the champion of Group C following a goalless draw against Myanmar.
Vietnam dominated ball possession to over 60 percent when facing Cambodia. They took the lead through Pham Ly Duc in the 35th minute.
In the 62nd minute, Cambodia managed to equalize through Rado Mon. However, in the 83rd minute, Nguyen Dinh Bac scored to put Vietnam back in the lead. Vietnam eventually won with a score of 2-1.
In the match held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Vietnam recorded 23 shots, but only six of them were on target. In contrast, Cambodia only managed to take six shots, half of which were on target.
Vietnam became the Group C champion with six points from a 3-0 victory over Laos in the first match and a 2-1 win against Cambodia. They qualified for the semifinals and will meet the Philippines, who advanced to the final four as the best runner-up.
Synchronously, the duel between Thailand and Myanmar took place at Patriot Cadrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, West Java. The battle between the two teams was intense.
Despite creating many opportunities, Thailand failed to score any goals. There were a total of 20 shots, with four of them on target. Meanwhile, Myanmar recorded two of 11 shots on goal.
The draw placed Thailand at the top of the standings with four points, following a goalless draw against Timor Leste with a score of 4-0. Myanmar followed with two points after the final match.
Thailand, which became the Group C champion, will face the Indonesian U-23 National Team, who became the champion of Group A and secured their spot in the semifinals of the 2025 AFF Cup a day earlier after being held to a goalless draw by Malaysia in the last group stage match.
The semifinal match of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup is scheduled to take place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, on Friday, July 25, 2025. Indonesia's U-23 National Team is set to play at 20:00 WIB (Indonesian Western Time).
