
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bandung City Police arrested 52 people suspected of engaging in thuggery during the Public Nuisance Operation (Pekat) Lodaya II 2025. Five of them were the targets of the Bandung City Police operation.
The operation, which ran from May 1 to 10, 2025, focused on tackling various street crimes, with an emphasis on thuggery. Bandung City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Aldi Subartono explained that the perpetrators often employed threats, extortion, and theft.
"The modes used by the perpetrators include threats, extortion, and theft, which are the main focus of the Pekat Operation that we carried out," Aldi said in a written statement on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
During the operation, police confiscated a range of evidence including 34 motorcycles, two cars, four master keys used for motorcycle theft, 16 sharp weapons, and one air rifle. Officers also seized two mobile phones and 45 other pieces of evidence.
Earlier, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to taking decisive action against thuggery that disrupts the public and business sector. He assured entrepreneurs that they need not worry about security when operating in Indonesia.
"Regarding investment, there is no need to hesitate. Just come in. Security matters are our responsibility," said the Police Chief at Plaza Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Sigit also encouraged the public to report any instances of thuggery in their communities. "We will instruct our members to take firm action," he said.
The Indonesian National Police launched simultaneous operations across all regional and district police units to combat thuggery. This initiative was outlined in telegram Number: STR/1081/IV/OPS.1.3/2025.
