Apple Brings Android-Like Vapor Chamber Cooling to iPhone 17 Pro

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a vapor chamber cooling system in the iPhone 17 Pro, a feature already common in many high-end and mid-range Android smartphones.

According to a report by Gizmochina on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, a leaked source suggests that this advanced cooling technology will help the iPhone manage demanding tasks such as gaming, artificial intelligence, and other intensive processing.

The vapor chamber works by vaporizing and condensing liquid to efficiently transfer heat from critical components to the phone’s frame.

Compared to traditional cooling methods like copper heat spreaders and graphite sheets, vapor chambers are considered significantly more effective in maintaining consistent temperature levels.

This improvement is seen as essential, especially given reports of a 40 percent GPU performance drop on the iPhone 16 Pro during extended use.

Another rumor indicates that the iPhone 17 Pro will be powered by the more advanced A19 Pro chip, which would demand a stronger cooling system. The new vapor chamber is reportedly designed to cool not only the processor but also the memory, modem, and rear camera module.

This broader coverage is expected to minimize overheating issues during long periods of 4K or 8K video recording and while using AI features processed directly on the device. Additionally, iOS 26 is predicted to introduce various AI-based enhancements, particularly for Siri.

However, this upgraded cooling system is said to be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro. The standard iPhone 17 model is expected to retain the conventional copper and graphite-based cooling approach. Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone 17 Pro in September 2025, alongside its other new iPhone models.
