TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Besides increasing the use of recycled materials in their products, the tech giant Apple also expands the use of renewable energy throughout its network. More than 20 gigawatts of renewable energy have been generated through the Supplier Clean Energy Program, with a total production exceeding 38 million megawatt-hours, equivalent to clean electricity supply for more than 3.4 million homes in the United States for a year.

Apple revealed this in its latest annual Environmental Progress Report. Apple aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its carbon footprint by the end of this decade. “These milestones in our work to protect the planet show that ambitious goals can also be powerful engines of innovation," said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a written statement on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Apple also reported adding 1.8 gigawatts of renewable energy to support the operations of offices, retail stores, and data centers that now use 100 percent renewable electricity globally. The company is also developing new clean energy projects to offset customers' electricity consumption when charging their devices.

In terms of water conservation, Apple and its suppliers stated that they saved 17 billion gallons of fresh water last year through various efficiency initiatives. The company aims to restore all clean water usage at its facilities globally by 2030 through innovation and partnership based on watershed areas.

By 2025, the projects claimed to have replaced more than half of the water needs for the operations of offices, data centers, and retail stores. All eight of Apple's data centers have also obtained Alliance for Water Stewardship certification.

In waste management, Apple noted a waste diversion rate of 75 percent through recycling, composting, and waste reduction in its global facilities. At the retail level, Apple Fifth Avenue became the first store to achieve TRUE Zero Waste certification after being able to divert more than 90 percent of waste from landfills.

Throughout the supply chain, Apple and its suppliers diverted more than 600,000 metric tons of waste from landfills in 2025, with 400 supplier facilities actively participating in the Zero Waste program. All Apple products are also reported to be shipped from final assembly facilities that have implemented waste-free operations to landfills.
