TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserts that the nuclear installation in Iran must not be attacked under any circumstances, as it may endanger human safety and damage the environment.
According to the spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah Soemirat, in a virtual press briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as quoted by Antara, this is in line with the regulations issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and agreed upon by all member countries of the United Nations (UN).
"Threats of attacking Iran's nuclear installations undoubtedly endanger civilian populations, including Indonesians, and could lead to a humanitarian disaster," said Rolliansyah.
Therefore, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to actively convey Indonesia's position at ongoing IAEA meetings regarding this issue, said the man who is commonly referred to as Roy.
"Even worse, an attack or threat of an attack on nuclear installations would endanger the nuclear non-proliferation regime currently upheld by all parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," said Roy.
Prior to this, Israel attacked Iran in the early hours of Friday, claiming to eradicate the country's nuclear program. Israel targeted three main nuclear facilities in Iran, namely Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow, as well as several leading scientists involved in nuclear research and development.
Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, stated that the radiation levels appeared normal outside the Natanz nuclear facility and other facilities in Isfahan.
However, the IAEA Director General warned that military escalation "increases the possibility of radiological release."
Grossi emphasized that it is important for the IAEA to receive regular and timely technical information about each facility and location.
He also asserted that without this information, the IAEA "cannot accurately assess the radiological conditions and their potential impact on the population and environment, and cannot provide the necessary assistance."
