TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Indonesia's Mount Raung has been reported to erupt again on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, with an observed eruption column height of approximately 750 meters above the summit (approximately 4,082 meters above sea level). The eruption, which was observed at 09:18 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), marks the fifth eruption in the past week.

"The observed ash column appeared white to gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the northeast and east," said Benny Setyawan, the Officer at the Raung Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in Kampung Mangaran, Sumber Arum village, Songgon District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, in his written report.

Information gathered by Tempo indicates that Mount Raung has erupted up to five times in the past week. The PGA Raung report mentioned consecutive eruptions occurring on 5-8 June 2025, and then another eruption on June 11.

Meanwhile, based on seismic observations conducted by the PGA Raung in the last 24 hours until early Wednesday, a number of seismic activities were reported, including four instances of tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-5 mm, and durations of 30-48 seconds.

It was also noted that two instances of distant tectonic earthquakes occurred with amplitudes of 3-13 mm, S-P 12-37 seconds, and durations of 39-96 seconds. Additionally, one continuous tremor earthquake was recorded with an amplitude of 0.5-4 mm, predominantly 1 mm.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) states that the activity level of Mount Raung remains at level II or alert. At this activity level, the public and visitors are advised to stay away from the eruption center within a 3-kilometer radius of the crater summit, and to descend into the caldera and spend the night in the crater area.

Previously, the Head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, stated that the seismic activity of Mount Raung is still dominated by tremor earthquakes, with a total of 37 events since June 1, 2025, and continuous tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 0.5-4 mm. Volcanic earthquakes were recorded with a very low number, which was one event during the same period.

Wafid also mentioned that the observation of seismic energy shows fluctuating and decreasing patterns since June 4, 2025, which is suspected to be related to the release of fluids (gas, fluids, rock solids) due to the eruption. The eruption source is suspected to originate from a relatively shallow depth.

This is supported by GNSS observations indicating that the pressure center is at a shallow depth (600 m below the Sumberwringin measuring point) with a negative change in volume. Satellite temperature anomaly observations indicate low-level anomalies.

"The continuous eruptions of Mount Raung from June 5 to 7, 2025, do not indicate any escalation in the intensity of the eruption or pose any increased threat, so the activity level is still considered relevant at level II (alert)," said Wafid
