TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five Indonesian students brought home splendid achievements from Paris. At the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2025, they won three bronze medals and two honorable mention awards. The competition was held from July 18 to 24, 2025, and attracted 405 participants from 92 countries.

The three bronze medals were won by Daffa Virwandy from SMA Negeri 17 Palembang, Muhammad Rakha Naufal Maulana from SMA Negeri 1 Serang City, and Muhammad Dakita Arfa Alfaritsi from MAN 2 Malang City. Two honorary awards were awarded to Arkaan Javier (MAN 2 Malang City) and Gusti Komang Abhika Atmaja (SMA Kesatuan Bangsa Yogyakarta).

"Congratulations to the students. May this experience be a valuable asset for the future," said Maria Veronica Irene Herdjiono, Head of the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in an official statement quoted on Sunday, August 3, 2025. She also expressed her gratitude to the coaching team who had accompanied the students throughout the coaching process and the competition.

This year's IPhO presented a unique challenge. According to Triyanta, the IPhO Coaching Coordinator from the Bandung Institute of Technology, the number of participants had almost doubled compared to the previous year. "The students did their best. They competed with 405 students from 92 countries," he said.

Daffa Virwandy, one of the medalists, described the intense competition process. "We went through two stages: experimental and theoretical. Each lasted five hours," he said. For Daffa, the three years of hard work and training paid off. "I am very proud to be able to contribute to bringing honor to Indonesia at the IPhO," he said.

Muhammad Rakha Naufal Maulana expressed similar sentiments. He called this achievement proof that Indonesian students are capable of competing on the global stage. "I'm proud to win a medal at a prestigious world-class event like IPhO," said Rakha. He also advised other students not to be easily swayed by negative comments. "If people say anything about you, use it as fuel to prove yourself," Rakha said.

The International Physics Olympiad is one of the most prestigious science olympiads in the world. Participants are tested on theoretical and experimental physics skills, including critical thinking, analysis, and advanced problem-solving skills.
