Iran Confirms U.S. Attacks on Nuclear Facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Regional Iranian officials have confirmed attacks on nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow, according to Iranian government media reports.

"A few hours ago, following activation of Qom air defense systems and identification of hostile targets, a part of the area of Fordow nuclear site was attacked by enemy air forces," stated the spokesperson for the Qom regional crisis management center, according to the government-affiliated news agencies Fars and IRNA, as reported by CNN on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

The Fordow facility, deeply buried within mountains in northern Iran, houses advanced centrifuges used to enrich uranium to high purity levels. Due to its depth, it is believed that only U.S. 'bunker buster' bombs are capable of damaging the facility.

The Deputy Governor for Security in Isfahan confirmed that facilities in both Isfahan and Natanz, located in central Iran, were also under attack. "We witnessed intrusions near the nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz," he said.

He further added that air defenses had been activated to "confront hostile targets" and that "several explosions were heard," according to statements quoted by the news agency.

Iranian media reports also indicated that the nuclear facilities had been evacuated prior to the attacks.
