Israeli Airstrike Claims Palestinian Doctor After Killing His 9 Children

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Palestinian father and doctor, who lost nine of his children in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, died on Sunday, June 1, from injuries sustained in the same attack, local health officials reported.

As reported by Anadolu, Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar was severely injured when Israeli forces bombed his house on May 24.

Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar was profoundly shocked upon receiving the charred bodies of her nine children at Nasser Medical Complex while she was on duty there. They had been killed in the Israeli airstrike that hit their home. The only surviving child, Adam, and his father, Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar, were both severely injured in the attack.

The Israeli military claimed to be investigating the drone attack that struck the Al-Najjar family's home.

Since the start of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, at least 972 Palestinian civilians have been killed and over 7,000 others injured in assaults by Israeli forces and illegal settlers across the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) declared last July that Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
