Mark Zuckerberg Launches Meta Superintelligence Labs Division

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has carried out a major restructuring by forming a new unit called Meta Superintelligence Labs. According to the company's internal memo, this move signals the company's new focus on developing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, also known as "superintelligence."

As quoted from a TechCrunch report, the entire team, which was previously scattered across various divisions and working on the development of Imitation Mind technology at Meta, will now be consolidated under Meta Superintelligence Labs. Alexandr Wang, former CEO of data labeling startup Scale AI, has been appointed as the chief AI officer and will lead this new division.

"He’ll partner with former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, who will oversee Meta’s AI products and applied research," the report stated.

Mark Zuckerberg continues to strive to lead in the competition for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) development, one of which is by acquiring companies developing imitation mind technology and recruiting talent from major competitors. In early July, Meta invested US$14.3 billion in Scale AI and recruited Wang in the process.

Furthermore, the report also mentioned that "Zuckerberg has also been able to lure 11 new AI researchers from competitors." This includes Pei Sun, a lead researcher at Google DeepMind, and Joel Pobar, an engineer from Anthropic.
