MIND ID Claims to Restore 46,700 Ha of Mining Land in Four Years

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned mining holding company MIND ID claimed to have restored 46,700 hectares of former mining land over the past four years. This environmental restoration includes the reclamation of ex-mining sites, rehabilitation of watershed areas (DAS), and conservation efforts in the Lake Toba region.

Director of Portfolio and Business Development at MIND ID, Kuswantoro Pambudi, elaborated that the total area comprises 7,000 hectares of reclaimed land, 37,000 hectares for DAS rehabilitation, and 2,700 hectares dedicated to a conservation program by PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) around Lake Toba.

"We view environmental management as an enabler in promoting good mining practices in accordance with existing regulations," Pambudi said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives Commission XII at the Parliament Complex on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Pambudi emphasized that sustainability is one of MIND ID's core strategies. He added that this commitment is a crucial indicator in the company's ambition to be listed in the Fortune Global 500.

He highlighted that MIND ID's operations are guided by six pillars of sustainability: environment and climate change, smart operations and responsible products, human resource development, community empowerment, economic development, and corporate governance.

In the environmental sector, Pambudi continued, MIND ID has implemented various initiatives, such as wastewater management using constructed wetland methods at PT Bukit Asam's Tanjung Enim mine.

"This method helps control acidity (pH), chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved oxygen demand (DOD), and suspended solids content (CSS)," he explained.

Furthermore, at PT Timah in Bangka, MIND ID has implemented a closed-loop water circulation system for tin ore washing, which has reportedly saved up to 160,000 cubic meters of water per year.

Pambudi also noted that periodic monitoring of wastewater and air quality is conducted across all company operational units. He asserted that monitoring results consistently show all environmental parameters are within government-set quality standards. "This step is an important part of MIND ID's efforts to create a sustainable and globally competitive mining industry," he concluded.
