TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police have arrested 12 members of mass organizations (ormas) for engaging in thuggery. Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Chief, Ade Ary Syam Indradi, stated that the dozen ormas members have been detained for legal proceedings.

"We will confirm the details of which organizations they belong to later," said Ade Ary during a press conference at the Jakarta Metro Police on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Aside from apprehending ormas members, the police have also confiscated hundreds of ormas attributes installed in various public facilities. He mentioned that the total number of attributes removed by officers during the 2025 Jaya Eradication Operation reached around 405 attributes. "The most widespread distribution of these ormas attributes was in the Bekasi Municipality," he said.

Ade Ary stated that in the operation conducted over the past eleven days, the police have apprehended 2,406 individuals suspected of engaging in thuggery in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. He mentioned that 231 of them have been proven to have committed criminal acts. They have been detained and are currently undergoing questioning at the Jakarta Metro Police.

According to Ade Ary, the thousands of individuals apprehended consist of individual elements, ormas members, debt collector figures, and motorbike gang members suspected of planning a clash. As for the types of thuggery dealt with by the Jakarta Metro Police in the operation, they include extortion, assault, gang beatings, muggings, violent theft, aggravated theft, and carrying sharp weapons without permission. 'We have seized 72 sharp weapons," he stated.

Ade Ary also urged the public not to hesitate in reporting any form of thuggery observed or experienced directly. According to him, the proactive role of the community will greatly assist the police in eradicating these acts of thuggery. "And we hope to work together with all parties in eradicating these thugs," he said.

Prior to this, Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto instructed his subordinates to conduct the Jaya Eradication Operation to tackle thuggery in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. This operation was carried out for fifteen days, from May 9 to May 23, 2025.

Karyoto deployed 999 personnel, consisting of 663 police officers, 306 military personnel, and 30 personnel from the Jakarta Provincial Government for this operation. "We, as law enforcement, are ready to act upon any matters related to thuggery," he said on Friday, May 9, 2025.
