Prabowo Hosts Eid Open House at Palace, Gifts Nastar and Cash to Guests

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto hosted an open house at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The palace distributed Eid gifts to the visitors.

Bambang, a rideshare (ojol) driver, revealed the gifts—put into navy bags—as guests left the palace. "It contains an umbrella, a tumbler, and nastar (pineapple tarts)," he said.

Besides these handouts, Bambang also mentioned a plain white envelope containing cash. "It was 200 thousand rupiah," said the Mangga Besar, West Jakarta, resident.

Bambang said he had the chance to sample various offerings at the palace's Eid open house event. He tried a helping of nearly all of the available menus, from lontong sayur, siomay, opor ayam (coconut chicken curry), beef rendang, Madurese chicken satay, and meatballs to es teler (Indonesian shaved ice) and es campur (Indonesian mixed shaved ice)

The palace prepared meals for around five thousand people. Bambang did not miss the opportunity to take home some of the food, as did many other guests.

The open house at the presidential palace kicked off at around 1:30 p.m. Jakarta time, but Bambang said he had been queuing at the State Secretariat Ministry gate, the entrance to the palace complex, since 9:00 a.m.

Before the gate opened, thousands of people were already seen waiting on the side of the road.

President Prabowo briefly greeted the guests inside a large tent erected in the palace complex garden.

Prabowo was seen entering the venue at around 3:00 p.m., accompanied by his son, Didit Hediprasetyo. He went around shaking hands with attending citizens.

But not everyone managed to enter the open house at the palace due to capacity limitations. Gilang Ramadan, a resident of Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, failed to reach the hall despite queueing since 12:30 p.m.

Gilang mentioned that those who could not join the open house were given basic necessities, including sweetened condensed milk, Monde biscuit boxes, two packs of Kapal Api coffee, tea, two bottles of soy sauce and chili sauce, a box of Energen, 5 kilograms of rice, and an umbrella. They also received a Hoka Hoka Bento lunchbox.

Gilang, who is currently between jobs, said he was initially unaware of the open house at the palace. "I happened to be sitting at the bus stop when I was told by someone. They said it's better to queue there (at the Palace) than to do nothing," he said.

Gilang said he would give the care package he received to his mother. "At least now I can give it to my mom," he said.
