Pramono Anung Opens 5 Jakarta Parks for 24 Hours

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has officially extended the operating hours of several parks in the capital. Effective today, Friday, May 16, 2025, five parks across Jakarta will now be open 24 hours a day.

Pramono announced this policy during a visit to Lapangan Banteng Park in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, one of the parks that will operate around the clock. "This is our commitment to provide more green open spaces," he stated.

In addition to Lapangan Banteng Park, Pramono confirmed that four other parks in Jakarta will be open day and night. These include Menteng Park in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Martha Tiahahu Literacy Park, Langsat Park, and Ayodya Park in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

Currently, no parks outside of South Jakarta and Central Jakarta have been officially designated for 24-hour operation. However, Pramono has indicated that the provincial government will work towards extending the operating hours of parks in other areas of Jakarta as well.

He hopes that the extended hours will enable people to engage in activities in the parks at night. "I imagine Jakarta having many places to meet, socialize, and share," said the politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

On the same occasion, Fajar Sauri, Head of the Jakarta City Park and Forest Office, mentioned that the government is also working to enhance the security of the parks. "There are security guards on duty 24 hours," Fajar confirmed.

The 24-hour opening of parks in Jakarta was a key promise made by Governor Pramono and his deputy, Rano Karno, during the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. They pledged to extend park operating hours if elected.

Before being inaugurated on February 20, 2025, Pramono Anung had aimed to open 10 parks for 24 hours within the first 100 days of his administration. "We have already identified 10 parks which, God willing, will be [open 24 hours] in the first 100 days," said Cyril Raoul Hakim, Head of the Communication Division of the Pramono Anung and Rano Karno Transition Team, when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

The first 100 days of Pramono's administration will conclude at the end of this month. During his approximately three months in office, the target of 10 parks has been reduced due to various factors. For instance, Tebet Eco Park in Tebet, South Jakarta, did not open for 24 hours due to objections from local residents expressed in a discussion forum with the local government.
