TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his congratulations to President Prabowo Subianto on the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day.
"Your country has attained universally recognized achievements in the economic and social spheres and enjoys welldeserved respect on the global stage," said Putin in a message, as quoted from Antara.
"I wish you robust health and every success in your state endeavours, and to all citizens of Indonesia – happiness and prosperity," he added.
Putin stated on Monday that strengthening relations between Russia and Indonesia aligns with efforts to enhance security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
"Relations between Moscow and Jakarta are developing most successfully, as evidenced in our productive contacts with you," the message read.
"Undoubtedly, we will continue our constructive joint efforts to further expand our mutually beneficial partnership," Putin added, in a message shared by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Telegram.
Indonesia and Russia, it said, had forged partnerships through BRICS, the Russia-ASEAN dialogue, and other international formats.
Putin also hoped that the ties between both countries would "fully serve the interests of our friendly peoples and contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world."
The day before, the Russian Embassy in Jakarta expressed its condolences for the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) that struck on Saturday morning August 15.
"We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. We hope that life in the areas affected by this natural disaster will soon return to normal," the Russian Embassy in Jakarta wrote on its Instagram account on Sunday, August 16.
