TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six Indonesian citizens or WNI were arrested by the police in Medina, Saudi Arabia. According to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah, they were arrested on suspicion of promoting illegal dam payments.

"Some time ago, the KJRI received information about the arrest of two Indonesian students in Medina and also four mukimin also in Medina," said the Indonesian Consul General in Jeddah Yusron B. Ambary in Mecca, Monday, as reported by Antara.

Yusron said that when they received the report, the KJRI immediately took action and met with the six WNI. They were arrested because they were suspected of being involved in promoting illegal dam payments or fines related to the Hajj pilgrimage. "The accusation given to them was carrying out dam sales or here it is called Hadyu," said Yusron.

He said that the students who were arrested were considered to have received money that was suspected of being related to Dam. Meanwhile, four other WNI were arrested because they were suspected of promoting illegal dam.

"So there was one student who was asked by his friend to receive money and was caught red-handed when he received the money," he said.

Regarding the four mukimin, according to him, when there was an inspection in their apartment, the authorities found them storing photos of slaughtering, promotional photos of dams, but they said they were last year.

According to Yusron, the six Indonesian citizens have been released because the evidence was insufficient. "Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), they have now been released because there is no evidence," he said.

Yusron emphasized that the Saudi Arabian Government has officially regulated the procedures for paying dams. He hopes that Indonesian prospective hajj pilgrims will follow the rules that have been set.

The Indonesian Consulate General also appealed to Indonesian citizens not to promote the sale of dams to pilgrims, because violators of the rules will be subject to sanctions by the Saudi government.

"The Indonesian Consulate General appeals to Indonesian citizens living in Saudi Arabia to promote the sale of dams to hajj pilgrims because based on the provisions issued by the Saudi Arabian Government, purchasing dams outside of official channels can be punished," he said.
