TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amudi, has confirmed that the hajj pilgrimage in 2026 will proceed smoothly and according to plan, despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhamdulillah (praise to God), remains safe," Ambassador Faisal said during a press conference at his residence in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara.
According to the ambassador, all preparations for this year are proceeding smoothly as planned by the Saudi government. "Everything will proceed smoothly," he said.
Previously, on March 13, Ambassador Faisal stated that the preparations for the 2026 hajj season had been carried out well without significant obstacles.
"Insya Allah (God willing), the preparations are going smoothly according to plan, and God willing, there will be no impact whatsoever," he said.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed that flights to Saudi Arabia will transport pilgrims according to the scheduled itinerary.
Therefore, he urged the Indonesian public not to worry, as the hajj preparations are proceeding as planned by the Saudi government.
On February 28, the US and Israel began attacking Iran, which then launched counterattacks on Israel and US military targets in the Middle East.
This escalation led to a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping lane for the global market's oil and liquefied natural gas from the Persian Gulf countries.
The disruption also affected oil exports and production in the region, as several targets in Iran, including Tehran, were hit, causing damage and civilian casualties.
