TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not long after the launch of the Switch 2, Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced their new handheld gaming device, the ROG Xbox Ally series, which will soon be available in several countries during this year's school holiday.
The ROG Xbox Ally combines the Windows operating system with an AMD Ryzen processor, and promises a gaming experience presented by Xbox.
"We wanted to take our handheld to the next level, but we could not do it alone," said Asus Chief of Consumer Product Team, Shawn Yen, in his statement on Sunday, June 8, 2025. He added, "This revolutionary partnership with Microsoft allowed us to forge a brand new device with ROG muscle and the soul of Xbox."
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X come with a completely new chassis design. Gaming on the go is a very personal experience, and hand comfort is a key element of a neatly designed device. With the original ROG Ally and Ally X experience, the ROG Xbox Ally series offers stands and textures for a more comfortable hand grip.
While the ROG Armoury Crate Special Edition software has made the ROG Ally user-friendly, ROG and Xbox intend to make their new devices even smoother with the Windows 11 operating system.
When the device is turned on, players are presented with a full screen Xbox interface. Windows 11 embedded in it has been optimized for the ROG Xbox Ally, reducing system overhead and offering easy navigation of buttons and joysticks.
Quick access to customizable settings and widgets is available through the Game Bar by pressing the Xbox button once. However, games and modes from other sources can still be easily accessed.
Both the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have the same dimensions, at 290.8 x 121.5 x 50.7 millimeters. However, their weights differ as the X series is 715 grams, while the regular one is 670 grams. Their battery specifications also differ, with 80 and 60 Wh, with the same 65 W recharge power.
For the standard RAM capacity, it is 16 GB with a 512 GB internal SSD storage. As for the X series, 24 GB and 1 TB internal SSD storage are available.
Available in a white color variant, the ROG Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally X, in a black device, takes advantage of higher performance, offering more space for graphic fidelity at a higher framerate as well, with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme.
AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics Group Jack Huynh said that the chosen processor provides abundant power even when playing AAA or heavy games. This processor is said to be one of the best in its class and suitable for the Xbox gaming ecosystem.
"Powered by the Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, the ROG Xbox Ally X delivers breathtaking graphics, extended battery life, and truly portable performance—empowering gamers everywhere to play without limits—anytime, anywhere," said Jack.
As for the screen, there is no difference between the two variants or colors. Both feature a 7-inch screen with an IPS panel, Full HD 1080p quality, a peak brightness of 500 nits, and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen refresh rate is also the same, at 120 Hz. Plus the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus + Corning DXC Anti-Reflection.
In the X series, the available ports include one USB4 slot with DisplayPort 2.1/Power Delivery 3.0, Thunderbolt 4; one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C slot with DisplayPort 2.1 / Power Delivery 3.0; one UHS-II microSD card reader slot (supporting SD, SDXC, and SDHC; UHS-I with DDR200 mode); and one 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack slot.
While the regular series provides two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C slots with DisplayPort 1.4 / Power Delivery 3.0; one UHS-II microSD card reader slot (supporting SD, SDXC, and SDHC); and one 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack slot.
When initially launched, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, UK, and the US.
