TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, publicly known as Tom Lembong, plans to appeal the verdict handed down by the Corruption Court in Jakarta.
"Mr. Tom will file an appeal against the Jakarta Corruption Court's decision," said his lawyer, Zaid Mushafi, in a text message on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The appeal is scheduled to be submitted on Tuesday, July 22, although Zaid has not provided further details regarding the exact time.
Previously, the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta found Lembong guilty of corruption related to sugar import activities during his time as Trade Minister between 2015 and 2016.
"The court sentences the defendant, Thomas Trikasih Lembong, to four years and six months in prison," said Chief Judge Dennie Arsan Fatrika while delivering the verdict on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Lembong was also ordered to pay a fine of Rp750 million. If unpaid, it will be replaced with an additional six months of imprisonment.
However, the court did not impose restitution, stating that Lembong did not receive financial gains from the case.
He was found guilty of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
