TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The US and ‌Israel on Saturday carried out an attack on the nuclear facility of Natanz in central Iran, which is ‌used for uranium enrichment, Iran's ‌Tasnim news ‌agency said, citing the country's atomic energy organization.

"Following the criminal attacks by the United States and the usurping Zionist regime against our country, the ... Natanz enrichment complex was targeted this morning," the organization said in a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency.

The attack did not lead to any leaks of radioactive material and there was no risk to residents living near the site, the agency said.

The US and several other Western countries fear that Iran might have been enriching uranium to levels near those suitable for use in nuclear weapons, fueling concerns that Tehran is seeking to build a nuclear arsenal, something it has always denied.

The Natanz site was already hit in the first week of the war, with satellite images showing damage to several buildings.

The US also bombed the Natanz facility in June last year during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, but the degree of damage caused was not clear.

UN Nuclear Watchdog Confirms No Radiation Leak at Natanz

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says Iran has informed it of the attack on its Natanz nuclear site and confirmed the assessment by the Iranian atomic energy organization that no radiation had been released.

The agency said it was looking into the report.

The IAEA statement, posted on X, also reiterated the call by its head, Rafael Grossi, for the warring parties to exercise restraint to avoid a nuclear accident.
