White House: Trump Diagnosed with Vein Condition After Leg Swelling

4 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump has experienced leg swelling and bruising on his hands. According to the White House, Trump has been examined by a physician.

Reported by Al Jazeera, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Trump has been diagnosed with "chronic venous insufficiency." Leavitt described the condition as "benign and common," where damaged veins prevent blood from flowing properly.

While reading the letter from Trump's physician, Leavitt added that the condition has higher rates in individuals over 70 years old. Trump, who is 79 years old, is the oldest person in U.S. history to assume the presidency. This raises questions about the age of former President Joe Biden as a decisive issue in the 2024 election.

Biden, who is three years older than Trump, then withdrew from the nomination amid pressure from his own party. He handed the Democratic candidacy to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump a few months later. Nevertheless, the president continues to attack Biden's age and mental fitness.

On Thursday, Leavitt said there is no evidence of more serious problems such as deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. She said all of Trump's test results are within normal limits.

Trump is said to have a normal cardiac structure and function, no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic disease. Leavitt also addressed questions about the bruise on Trump's hand, which has sparked online speculation about his health.

Leavitt said the bruise is consistent with "minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin." Trump takes aspirin for a cardiovascular prevention regimen.

Although not legally required, it is common for U.S. presidents to release annual physical examination results and health details.
